Our association with sheep began way back in 1998, when we took an orphaned lamb to bottle feed. Steph the sheep was the cutest little guy, but as he grew, he became quite ferocious! No one dared to go into the yard without a sweeping brush in their hand, as Steph would charge them (just being affectionate!) and pin them against a wall. Steph then went to live happily for many years with the flock of a neighbour.

Since then, Shaun, Mr. Valentine, Mary and Suzy, who was completely blind, were just a few of the dozen or so sheep that make up the Littlehill flock. They keep weeds under control, thus ensuring that no chemical weedkillers have to be used, and they graze happily with the horses and ponies, which is beneficial for both species as the parasite worm cycle is broken by having mixed grazing on the land.

Most of the Littlehill sheep are brought to us in very poor condition, having been abandoned or dumped. Specialised veterinary care and round-the-clock nursing gets them back on their hooves, and they happily graze the green fields here at the sanctuary. They are shorn every summer, but sadly, no one wants wool anymore, so if you would like a fleece for hand spinning and knitting, just contact us in June!

We do not offer any of our sheep for adoption, they have a lifelong home with us.
